President Mahama Embarks on Working Visit to South Korea

John Dramani Mahama will undertake a four-day working visit to the Republic of Korea from March 10 to March 14, 2026, aimed at strengthening diplomatic and economic relations between Ghana and South Korea.

According to a statement issued by the Presidency and signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, President Mahama departed Accra on Sunday to begin the official engagements.

High-Level Bilateral Talks

During the visit, President Mahama is scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with the President of South Korea, Lee Jae-myung, where discussions are expected to focus on deepening cooperation in trade, technology, and development.

The Ghanaian leader will also meet with the Speaker of the Korean National Assembly, Woo Won-shik, as part of efforts to strengthen parliamentary relations between the two countries.

Ship-Naming Ceremony in Ulsan

A key highlight of the visit will be President Mahama’s participation in a ship-naming ceremony at the Hyundai Shipyard in Ulsan, one of the world’s largest shipbuilding facilities operated by Hyundai Heavy Industries.

The ceremony reflects growing maritime and industrial cooperation between Ghana and South Korea.

Address at Yonsei University

The President will also deliver a speech during a Conferment Ceremony at Yonsei University, one of South Korea’s leading academic institutions.

The event is expected to bring together scholars, diplomats, and policymakers to discuss cooperation in education, innovation, and global development.

Engagement With Ghanaian Diaspora and Businesses

As part of the visit, President Mahama will hold an evening interaction with Ghanaians living, studying, and working in South Korea, highlighting the government’s commitment to engaging the Ghanaian diaspora.

He will also attend a dinner meeting with chief executives and business owners, aimed at attracting investment and exploring new partnerships between Ghanaian and Korean industries.

Strengthening Ghana–Korea Relations

The visit underscores Ghana’s intention to deepen its relationship with South Korea in areas such as technology transfer, industrialization, maritime development, and education cooperation.

Government officials say the engagements are expected to open new opportunities for trade and investment while strengthening diplomatic ties between the two countries.
