The Upper West Regional Police Command has hosted the Member of Parliament for Wa West District, Hon. Peter Lanchene Toubu, and the District Chief Executive, Hon. Richard Wullo, during a courtesy visit aimed at strengthening collaboration on security issues in the district.
The meeting, which took place on March 5, 2026, focused on assessing the current security situation in the Wa West District and reviewing ongoing police operational strategies.
During the engagement, the Upper West Regional Police Commander, DCOP Francis Yiribaare, briefed the delegation on the progress of police investigations into several incidents recorded in the district over the past two years. According to him, some of the cases are currently before the courts, while others remain under active investigation.

DCOP Yiribaare noted that criminal activity in the district remains generally low due to effective security measures implemented by the Police in collaboration with other stakeholders. However, he expressed concern over occasional tensions linked to longstanding tribal-related feuds in parts of the district.
He explained that these tensions sometimes lead to the generalization of crimes along tribal or group lines instead of focusing on individual criminal responsibility, a situation he said tends to deepen mistrust and heighten tensions within communities.
The meeting also provided a platform for both sides to deliberate on ways to address these challenges and strengthen peace in the district.
At the end of the engagement, the parties reaffirmed their commitment to deepening cooperation and coordination to enhance security in Wa West. They also pledged to work closely with other stakeholders, including traditional authorities and the youth, to address the underlying ethnic tensions and promote sustainable peace, security and development in the district.
