Temporary Road Closures in Accra for 68th Independence Anniversary Celebration

The Ghana Police Service has announced temporary road closures in Accra on Thursday, March 6, 2025, as part of security arrangements for the 68th Independence Anniversary celebration at the Jubilee House.

According to a press release from the Public Affairs Directorate of the Ghana Police Service, certain roads will be blocked to vehicular traffic and will only reopen after the event.

Road Closures

The affected roads include:

• Liberation Road at Opeabia Intersection

• 37 Intersection towards the Central Business District (CBD)

• Independence Avenue at Ako-Adjei Bypass, Jawaharlal Nehru Road at Switchback Road

• Presidential Drive around Jubilee House, blocked at John Hammond Road at TV3 Junction and Kanda Link

Road Diversions

Motorists are advised to use alternative routes:

• Traffic from Liberation Road (Airport direction) will be diverted at Opeibea Traffic Intersection onto the Alliance Française Road, connecting to Obasanjo Highway or Airport Bypass to Giffard Road.

• Independence Avenue traffic from Accra will be diverted at Ako-Adjei Interchange towards Osu or Ring Road Central to Kawukudi.

• Motorists from Club 10 and Kanda Post Office will use Kanda Link to Sunyani and Kade Avenue, connecting to Kanda Highway.

Additionally, no vehicles will be allowed to park on these roads, and alternative parking arrangements have been made. Unauthorized parking or access to blocked areas will be prohibited.

Security and Public Cooperation

The Ghana Police Service urges motorists and the general public to adhere to these arrangements to facilitate smooth traffic management. Traffic Police officers will be deployed to direct vehicles and assist with diversions. Towing services will be on standby to remove any wrongly parked or abandoned vehicles.

Assistant Commissioner of Police, Grace Ansah-Akrofi, Director of Public Affairs, signed the statement, urging motorists to plan their routes in advance and cooperate with the police for an efficient traffic control process.
