Tema Metro Education Directorate initiates self-help office project

The Tema Metro Education Office has launched a self-help project to provide a befitting modern office edifice after operating from different premises for the past six decades.

The initiative follows a failed promise and earlier plans by the Tema Metropolitan Assembly (TMA) some years back to provide the directorate with an office after being ejected from the premises of the TDC Company Limited alongside other public institutions

Madam Bernice Ofori, the Tema Metro Education Director, during the launch, said the directorate was a key administrative body which oversees schools at the pre-tertiary level, ensuring that educational standards were maintained across the about 300 schools and over 1000 pupils within Tema Metro.

Madam Ofori disclosed that her outfit has been operating from rented apartments for several years, indicating that in 2019, they relocated to Community Eight and Community Seven markets and currently have their logistics office and stores operating from Community Two and One, respectively, which makes monitoring and supervision a challenge.

“It is sad to note that formal education in Tema can’t boast of our own accommodation to make it easy to monitor, supervise, and coordinate education in Tema,” she said.

She appealed to organisations, groups and individuals to support the directorate to realise its dream of building modern office accommodation with a conference at an estimated cost of between seven to 10 million Ghana Cedis.

Ms Ebi Bright, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, who chaired the occasion, commended the directorate for the initiative, indicating that it has prompted the assembly to revise its budget to include their pressing issue.

“Your zeal has led to the revising of the assembly’s budget to factor in this project to show our commitment,” she said and called on all to support the project, remembering how they benefited from the same educational system to reach the various positions they are occupying.

The office complex, which was designed by the Tema Technical Institute, when realised, will have several offices, a 50 to 70 sitting capacity conference hall, a kitchen, washrooms including some for the handicapped, among other facilities.
