GFZA CEO Joins President Mahama to Commission World’s Largest Calcined Clay Plant in Tema

The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority (GFZA), Dr. Mary Awusi, joined President John Dramani Mahama on Wednesday, March 5, 2026, to commission the world’s largest calcined clay production facility at the Tema Free Zones Enclave. The state-of-the-art facility, developed by Continental Blue Investment (CBI) Ghana Ltd., has the capacity to produce over 400,000 tonnes of calcined clay annually, making it the largest industrial-scale flash calciner for clay globally. The Tema Regional Police Command has intercepted a total of 1,613 parcels of substances suspected to be narcotic drugs following a well-coordinated, intelligence-led operation along the Akosombo–Tema road. The major breakthrough forms part of ongoing efforts by the Police to disrupt drug trafficking activities within the Tema Region and beyond. According to the Police, the operation was initiated after intelligence was received on 10th January 2026 indicating that suspected narcotic substances were being transported from the Volta Region toward Tema. Tema Police Secure 15-Year Jail Term for Two Men in Rape and Robbery Case

The Tema Regional Police Command has secured the conviction of two men who attacked, raped, and robbed a young woman along the Apollonia–Afienya road late last month. The disturbing incident happened on September 27, 2025, at Okushibli, when a 19-year-old hairdresser hired a motor rider, Nicholas Tetteh, to take her to Afienya. Police say the rider conspired with two accomplices, including Joseph Tetteh, to assault the victim. On the way, she was dragged into a nearby bush, where two of the men allegedly raped her before taking off with her iPhone XR and handbag containing GHC 150. Police in Tema have arrested four suspects after discovering 315 compressed parcels of substances believed to be Indian hemp concealed in a truck. The operation, carried out by officers of the Tema Community 1 District Police on Monday, September 8, 2025, followed a tip-off about suspicious activity at the Community 1 Industrial Area. The suspects, identified as Nura Sali (44), Pius Chukwuma (49), Mustapha Umar (18), and Abdulai Amayau (23), were found transporting the suspected narcotics in a truck with registration number GN 7291-16. Police say the parcels had been carefully hidden in the vehicle’s tyres to avoid detection.
