Police arrest suspect in shooting incident at Obuasi funeral

The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested a 30-year-old man for allegedly shooting and injuring a traditional ruler from Adansi Dompoase during a funeral ceremony at Obuasi in the Ashanti Region. The suspect, identified as Nana Yaw Dankwa, was taken into custody on Saturday, 29th November 2025. Police officers on duty at the event reportedly heard a gunshot and quickly intervened, disarming and arresting the suspect. During the operation, officers retrieved an unregistered single-barrel gun loaded with ammunition from the suspect. The injured traditional ruler has since received medical treatment and been discharged. Meanwhile, the suspect remains in police custody and is expected to be arraigned before court to face prosecution.
