Do not aid foreigners to register- NCCE urges

Mr Kenneth Kponor, Volta Regional Director, National Commission for Civic Education, has appealed to Ghanaians to avoid aiding foreigners to take part in the ongoing limited voter registration exercise. He said such an act was unlawful and that it was the duty of every citizen of the country to protect the laws of the land, hence the appeal for all to ensure that the right thing was done. Mr Kponor who made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency emphasized the need for the citizens to be patriotic and loyal to the country. Protecting country against terrorist attacks: 48 foreigners nabbed in Ejisu

 The Suspects The Ejisu Divisional Police Command is investigating 48 foreigners arrested in two separate operations in connection with alleged terrorism and other fraudulent acts. Of the number,21 of the suspects were arrested last Thursday, while 27 were also arrested on Saturday evening. The arrest followed about three months of monitoring by the community members in the area who noticed the abnormal behaviours of the suspects. They are said to be from Niger, Nigeria, Kenya and Mali. A police source at the Ejisu Divisional Police Command, who confirmed the operation, said the arrest was made at Ekyem, a community in Ejisu Municipality, based on a tip off. Voter Registration: Use of only Ghana Card will eliminate minors, foreigners – EC 

The Electoral Commission (EC) says the use of the Ghana Card as the only source of identification for the continuous voters’ registration exercise is the surest way to rid the electoral register of minors and foreigners.  The Commission said the use of the Ghana Card would help to phase out the guarantor system which was often exploited by non-eligible persons to get onto the electoral register.  Addressing a news conference in Accra on Thursday evening, Mr Samuel Tettey, Deputy EC Chair in Charge of Operations, said the constitutional instrument that would govern the continuous registration exercise would be laid in Parliament when the House resumed.  He said the Commission had targeted registering between 450,000 and 550,000 new voters in the continuous voter regi...

279 Ghanaians and 107 foreigners arrested in northern part of Ghana

The National Security Ministry through a joint security operation has arrested 279 Ghanaians and 107 foreigners in five regions in the northern part of Ghana.  The joint security operation that was carried out was made up of personnel from the National Security, the National Investigations Bureau and the Ghana Armed Forces.  The operations led to the destruction of lots of properties in some communities and it also forced many individuals to flee from their homes.  A resident from one of the communities told Joy News that they were very terrified when they saw the security personnel in their community.  “Around 4:30 am, we rushed outside and saw the armed forces surrounding the whole community. Immigration Service arrests 54 foreigners at Bawku

The Ghana Immigration Service at Berekum has arrested 54 Niger nationals over illegal entry when the country’s borders remain closed. Chief Superintendent Carl Dogbegah said they were intercepted following a tipoff by the National Intelligence Bureau officer for Berekum West District. He added that the service has a duty of repatriating them to Bawku and be sent back to Niger. Explaining their intent, the leader of the Niger nationals, Amadu Zakari, said they were heading to Sampa in the Jaman North District to search for greener pastures. The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has refuted claims by the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) that it was the brains behind the violence and the illegal registration of foreign nationals in the voter registration exercise. KYIV, Aug 26 (Reuters) - Ukraine on Wednesday imposed a temporary ban on most foreigners from entering the country until Sept. 28 and extended lockdown measures until the end of October to contain a recent spike in coronavirus cases. Speaking at a televised cabinet meeting, Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmygal also said the government would need to take a decision on Thursday on whether to ban major public events in September. "The rise in coronavirus infections we have seen in recent weeks is forcing us to act more decisively," Shmygal said. The Electoral Commission (EC) says there are minors and foreigners among the 16.9 million persons it has so far registered to vote on December 7. This comes days after the Commission patted itself on the back for the successful completion of the voters’ registration exercise. Mandatory medical examination for foreign nationals seeking Immigration permit

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) will commence an enhanced mandatory medical examination for all foreign nationals seeking to work and reside in the country. The directive, which takes effect from June 15 of this year will include; testing for COVID-19 and will cover other permits such as Indefinite Residence, Right of Abode and Naturalization, as well as renewal of other Residence permits. This becomes an add-on to the already existing medical examination undertaken by the Service as one of the requirement for acquiring Work and Residence permits by a foreign national. Akanu Boarder:Twenty seven foreigners packed in a Cargo truck arrested

Twenty-seven Nigerian and Nigerien nationals have been arrested by immigration officers at the Akanu boarder in the Volta region for attempting to breach border closure protocols.  They were attempting to flee Ghana to their home country this morning in a cargo truck load of Onions from Accra to Nigeria. The government has closed the country's land, air and sea borders to human traffic as part of measures to deal with the COVID 19 pandemic which has affected almost 6,000 people.  The Head of Immigration at the Akanu boarder, Assistant Commissioner of Immigration,Felix Adzimah says it took the vigilance of his men to intercept the truck.
