The Star Old Students Association (SOSA) has held a Menstrual Hygiene Awareness session to educate students of their alma mater on the menstrual cycle and promote healthy practices.
The session, which was themed “Period-Friendly World”, was aimed at empowering students with knowledge, promoting a supportive environment and creating a stigma-free atmosphere.
Members of SOSA touched on various aspects of menstrual health, including the different phases of the menstrual cycle, common symptoms, and how to manage them effectively.

Interactive discussions and group activities were used to encourage students to share their experiences and learn from each other.
Madam Benedicta Adotsi, a pharmacy technician and a SOSA member, said the significance of proper hygiene, the use of sustainable menstrual products, and how to address period-related challenges.
“Make sure you bath at least three times a day during your period, make sure you wrap used pads in black rubbers and dispose of them neatly, and remember to stay hydrated,” she said.
Madam Agnes Agbeve, a teacher at Star Basic School, enlightened the male students about the experiences of their female mates and how they could offer them support when they are having their menses.
Madam Agbeve advised the students against stigmatisation, urging them to foster empathy and understanding.
They used the occasion to distribute sanitary pads and books to the students. The book contains information on the misconceptions and stigma people have towards the menstrual cycle, serving as an educative piece for inexperienced people, especially the boy child, about menstruation.
Miss Bless Iris Amasa, a JHS form three student was declared Miss Hygiene and was awarded for being the neatest and most courteous student in the school.
