Self-Proclaimed Prophet Arrested Over Failed Doomsday Prediction

A self-styled prophet and content creator, Evans Eshun, widely known as Ebo Noah, has been arrested and charged with false communication after his widely publicized prediction that the world would end on Christmas Day failed to materialize.
Eshun was arraigned before the Adentan Circuit Court on January 2, where the court ordered that he be remanded for two weeks pending further investigations. The court also directed that the 30-year-old undergo a psychiatric evaluation as part of the case proceedings.
He is expected to reappear before the court on January 15, by which time the results of the psychiatric assessment are anticipated, according to reports by Ghanaian media.
The arrest follows months of public anxiety sparked by Eshun’s claims, which began circulating in August, that the world would end on December 25 through a catastrophic flood. He told followers that only those who entered a wooden ark he had constructed would be saved, insisting that the directive came from a divine revelation.
In the lead-up to Christmas, Eshun’s prophecy drew hundreds of followers, some traveling from neighbouring countries, to the location of the ark in anticipation of the foretold doomsday. Many reportedly gathered on Christmas Day, expecting to be spared from what he described as an impending global catastrophe.
However, when December 25 passed without incident, Eshun told his followers that the disaster had been postponed by God, claiming that intense prayer and supplication had led to a divine change of plan.
Authorities subsequently moved in, citing concerns over public panic and misinformation. The case has reignited discussions about religious extremism, false prophecies, and the responsibility of self-proclaimed spiritual leaders in the age of social media.
Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
