The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has publicly distanced itself from controversial remarks made by its Bono Regional Chairman, Mr. Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, targeting Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams, a globally respected Ghanaian religious leader.
In a strongly worded statement issued by the party’s General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP described Abronye’s comments as “unfortunate and unprovoked”, and clarified that they do not reflect the values or official position of the party.
“The New Patriotic Party unequivocally distances itself from those comments,” the statement read. “We hold religious leadership in high regard and recognise the immense contributions of Archbishop Duncan-Williams and the broader religious community to national development, peace, and moral guidance.”

Background
The comments in question were made by Abronye during a recent media appearance, where he allegedly took a swipe at the Archbishop over his perceived views on poverty and governance. The remarks triggered public backlash, particularly from sections of the Christian community.
While the party affirmed its belief in freedom of expression, it emphasized that such freedom must be exercised with “utmost responsibility, respect, and decorum,” especially when addressing national figures whose influence and legacy go beyond politics.
Public Clarification and Assurance
The NPP has urged Ghanaians, especially members of the Christian community, to treat Mr. Baffoe’s comments as his personal views and not a representation of the party’s stance.
“We remain committed to fostering respectful engagement across all sectors of Ghanaian society and will continue to work in partnership with religious institutions for the collective advancement of our country,” the statement concluded.
The NPP’s swift disassociation aims to calm tensions and reinforce its commitment to unity and mutual respect between political and religious institutions in Ghana.
