Mahama Directs Expansion of Security Services Recruitment to 40,000

President John Dramani Mahama has directed a significant expansion of recruitment into Ghana’s security services, increasing the planned intake from 20,000 to 40,000 personnel over the next four years.

The directive followed a high-level meeting chaired by the President with the heads of various security agencies, as well as the Minister for the Interior and the Acting Minister for Defence. The meeting focused on reviewing the ongoing recruitment process across the country’s security institutions.

During the briefing, the President was updated on the current progress of recruitment efforts. After assessing the situation, he instructed that the number of recruits be doubled to strengthen the operational capacity of the nation’s security agencies.

President Mahama also emphasized the need for strict transparency and fairness throughout the recruitment exercise. He tasked the heads of the security services to ensure that the process remains credible and free from favoritism so that qualified and deserving applicants are given equal opportunity.

The meeting was attended by key government and security officials, including the Chief of Staff, the Secretary to the President, the Senior Presidential Advisor on Governmental Affairs, and the National Security Coordinator.

Also present were the Inspector-General of Police, the Director-General of the Ghana Prisons Service, the Director-General of the Ghana National Fire Service, the Comptroller-General of the Ghana Immigration Service, and the Director-General of the Narcotics Control Commission.

The expansion of recruitment is expected to boost manpower across the security services and strengthen national security operations in the coming years.
