Hon. Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Member of Parliament for Abetifi and Presidential Aspirant of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has expressed profound sorrow over the tragic incident that occurred at the El-Wak Sports Stadium during the recent military recruitment exercise.
In a deeply emotional statement, Dr. Acheampong described the event—where the lives and aspirations of several young Ghanaians were cut short—as “a wound to our nation’s soul.” He extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families, noting that their grief is shared by the entire country.
“The dreams of several young Ghanaians have been cut short, and this loss breaks my heart,” he said. “To the grieving families, I extend my sincerest condolences. Your pain is our pain.”

Dr. Acheampong emphasized that every Ghanaian life is precious and called for a comprehensive review of the processes surrounding the recruitment exercise to ensure such a tragedy never happens again.
“This tragedy demands urgent reflection. Our youth deserve opportunities that are safe, dignified, and hopeful,” he stressed.
He further prayed for the souls of the departed, expressing hope that their memory will strengthen the nation’s commitment to building a Ghana where the hopes and dreams of its young people are nurtured rather than crushed.
“May the departed rest in perfect peace, and may their memory strengthen our resolve to build a Ghana where hope is never crushed,” he concluded.
The tragic event at El-Wak Stadium has sparked nationwide concern, prompting calls for accountability and reforms to safeguard future applicants. Dr. Acheampong’s message adds to the growing demand for systemic improvements to ensure the safety and dignity of Ghana’s youth in national recruitment processes.
