The Anlo Dukor Council, in collaboration with the Ghana Exim Bank, has officially launched activities for the 2025 edition of the historic Hogbetsotso Festival, one of Ghana’s most celebrated cultural events. This year’s festival is being observed under the theme: “Building Bridges: From Common History to a Common Destiny.”
The celebrations, which began with the grand launch at Ohawu on August 30, 2025, will span three months and feature a rich lineup of cultural, educational, religious, and entertainment activities across the Anlo State in the Volta Region.
Among the major highlights are:

- Ban on Drumming & Noise Making (Sept 7–27, across Anlo Dukor)
- Leadership Training for Chiefs (Oct 8–10, Anloga)
- Mini Hogbe Festival (Oct 25, Adidome)
- Children’s Durbar (Oct 29, across Anlo Dukor)
- Quiz Competition (Oct 29, Keta/Anloga)
- Nugbido-do (Reconciliation Rites) (Oct 30, Agorwowornu, Anloga)
- Unity Concert (Oct 30, Anloga)
- Health Walk (Oct 31, Keta)
- Awoamefia Sitting in State (Oct 31, Woe–Anloga)
- Volta Economic Forum (Oct 31, Reddington Hotel, Whuti)
- Glimetoto Historical Exodus Reenactment (Oct 31, Anloga)
- Mama Hogbe Pageant (Oct 31, Keta)
- Grand Durbar (Nov 1, Hogbe Park, Anloga)
- Beach Party (Nov 2, Emancipation Beach, Keta)
- Interfaith Thanksgiving & Post-Festival Activities (Nov 3–9, various towns)
The climax of the festival will be the Grand Durbar of Chiefs and People of Anlo at Hogbe Park, Anloga, on Saturday, November 1, 2025, where the Awoamefia, traditional leaders, dignitaries, and thousands of celebrants are expected to gather in a colorful display of Ewe tradition and unity.
Sponsors for this year’s celebration include Stanbic Bank, Agricultural Development Bank (ADB), ENPA, Multimedia Group, and BOS.
The Hogbetsotso Festival, celebrated annually by the Anlo Ewe people, commemorates the legendary migration from Notsie in present-day Togo, and serves as a platform for cultural pride, reconciliation, and social development.
Organizers have assured that this year’s edition will be “bigger, more inclusive, and impactful,” blending traditional rites with modern attractions to showcase the cultural heritage of the Volta Region to Ghana and the world.
