Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Adams, has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to developing volleyball and other sporting disciplines following a high-profile visit by the President of the Confederation of African Volleyball (CAVB), Bushira Hajij.
Madam Hajij was in Ghana to attend the Kalibi Zone 3 Volleyball Championship, where she commended the country for successfully hosting what she described as a vibrant and highly competitive tournament.
Praise for Ghana’s Hosting Efforts

According to the Sports Minister, it was a privilege to receive the CAVB President during her visit. He noted that her commendation of Ghana’s efforts is both encouraging and a testament to the hard work invested in organizing the championship.
“The enthusiasm, talent and discipline displayed by the teams reaffirm our belief that Africa possesses the capacity to excel in volleyball on the global stage,” the Minister stated.
The tournament brought together top teams from the Zone 3 region, showcasing emerging talent and highlighting the growing standard of volleyball across West Africa.
Commitment to Infrastructure and Talent Development
Mr. Adams emphasized that volleyball remains deeply rooted in Africa and holds significant potential for international success if supported with deliberate investment and structured development.
He stressed that under the leadership of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, the Ministry is focused on improving sports infrastructure and creating opportunities to nurture talent across various disciplines.
“Our commitment as a Ministry remains clear. We are steadily improving infrastructure and expanding opportunities to ensure young talents are identified and developed,” he said.
Call for Strategic Partnerships
The Minister further underscored the need for collective effort in sports development, noting that strategic partnerships, corporate sponsorship, and stronger media visibility are essential to elevating African volleyball to greater heights.
He expressed optimism that with sustained collaboration between governments, sports federations, and private stakeholders, African volleyball can become a major force on the international stage.
The successful hosting of the Kalibi Zone 3 Championship, he added, demonstrates Ghana’s readiness to play a leading role in advancing volleyball development across the continent.
