Government Assures Safety of Ghanaians in Middle East Amid Rising Tensions

The Government of Ghana has held a high-level virtual meeting with its Ambassadors and Consuls General in the Middle East to assess the evolving security situation in the region and strengthen measures to protect Ghanaian nationals.

The meeting, convened by the Minister for Foreign Affairs, brought together Heads of Mission from Israel, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, United Arab Emirates, Iran, and Turkey.

According to a statement issued after the meeting, the discussions focused on the latest developments in the region and explored additional consular interventions to ensure the safety of Ghanaians living and working in the affected countries.

The Minister expressed relief that, as of the time of the meeting, no Ghanaian had been killed or injured in connection with the ongoing tensions.

To enhance coordination and rapid response, the government has compiled a comprehensive and reliable database of all Ghanaians residing in the listed countries. The database includes citizens on short visits as well as those transiting through the region.

All diplomatic missions have been directed to identify Ghanaians within their jurisdictions who may wish to be evacuated. These requests, the statement noted, will receive urgent consideration from the government.

In the meantime, Ghana’s diplomatic missions are actively assisting a considerable number of citizens to move across designated strategic border crossings to safer locations.

The government reaffirmed that the safety and welfare of all Ghanaians abroad remain its utmost priority and assured the public that it will continue to monitor developments closely while taking necessary steps to protect its citizens. The Government of Ghana has held a high-level virtual meeting with its Ambassadors and Consuls General in the Middle East to assess the evolving security situation in the region and strengthen measures to protect Ghanaian nationals.
