Peace in Bawku, healthcare top priorities of Upper East Regional designate

Mr Donatus Atanga Akamugri, the Upper East Regional Minister-designate, has outlined four key priority areas he is determined to pursue and leave as legacy at the end of his tenure. Helping to bring permanent peace to Bawku, ensuring the completion and operationalisation of the Pwalugu Multipurpose Dam, the Upper East Regional Airport and the Agenda 111 would be his top priorities to improve the lot of the region. Opuni Trial: AG withdraws all charges against Dr Opuni, Agongo

The Attorney-General (AG) has withdrawn all charges against Dr Stephen Kwabena Opuni, a former Chief Executive of COCOBOD, and Seidu Agongo, a businessman. Ms. Enam Loh Mensah, State Attorney, told the Court, presided over by Justice Aboagye Tandoh that the AG had instructed that the charges against the accused persons be withdrawn. She said the State has, therefore, filed a notice of withdrawal pursuant to the instructions. Dr Opuni and Mr Agongo are facing 27 charges, including defrauding by false pretences, willfully causing financial loss to the State, money laundering, and corruption by a public officer in contravention of the Public Procurement Act. CETAG suspends strike, academic work resumes January 27- National President

Mr Maxwell Bunu, the National President of the Colleges of Education Teachers Association (CETAG), has announced the suspension of its three-week strike across the country. He said new students had started registration on Monday, January 27, 2025, to pave the way for academic lessons to start. Three ladies with concealed methamphetamine in suitcases remanded

An Accra High Court has remanded into lawful custody two South Africans and a Nigerian accused of possessing over 16 kg of methamphetamine, a narcotic drug. This follows their arrest at the Kotoka International Airport on January 20, 2025, by officials of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC). The accused persons (names withheld) are alleged to have concealed the drugs in two suitcases.
