Atti-Morkwa Chief Imam urges action on galamsey, LGBTQ+ concerns

In a strong appeal for government intervention, Alhaji Idris Ahmed, the Chief Imam of the Twifo Atti Morkwa District of the Central Region, has urged decisive action against illegal mining activities and the LGBTQ+ community.

 He expressed concerns that illegal miners, known locally as “galamseyers,” have severely polluted vital water bodies, particularly the River Pra, threatening the very livelihoods and health of the people.

Additionally, he stated that the LGBTQ+ community does not align with the cultural and religious values of the area and must be checked to forestall any confusion. Alhaji Hussein Ismail Mussah made the remarks on behalf of Imam Idris Ahmed during a National Prayer Day event held at the Twifo Praso Central Mosque.

The event brought together the clergy, some personnel of Twifo Praso Police Service, the Assembly, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Twifo Atti Morkwa, Mr Isaac Yawson among other dignitaries.

Emphasising the importance of unity, Imam Ahmed urged cohesion among community members as an essential force to address negative practices in their Areas and the country.

In an interview with the DCE after the event, he highlighted the purpose of the prayer event which was to express gratitude for the nation’s progress and to encourage everyone to unite for continued peace.

He asserted that without peace and harmony, the communities could not thrive and called for concerted efforts to help the Assembly address myriad of concerns that impeded growth and progress.
