20 Students Expelled from Ada Secondary School After Tragic Drowning Incident

Authorities at Ada Secondary School have taken disciplinary action by expelling twenty (20) students for breaching school regulations after they left campus without permission to swim in a nearby river — a decision that ended in tragedy.

According to school officials, the students absconded from the boarding facility earlier this week without notifying any staff or securing approval. They reportedly went swimming in the Volta River, a recreational activity strictly prohibited by school policy due to the high risk involved.

Tragically, the unauthorized outing turned fatal when one of the students drowned during the swim. The incident has shocked the school community and raised concerns about student safety and discipline.

In response, the school’s disciplinary committee convened an emergency session and decided to expel all twenty students involved, citing gross misconduct and violation of the institution’s code of conduct.

“The safety of our students is our utmost priority,” said a senior school official who spoke on condition of anonymity. “We deeply regret the loss of life, and while we mourn with the affected family, we must also send a clear message about the importance of adhering to school rules.”

The identity of the deceased student has not yet been officially released, pending notification of next of kin. Meanwhile, grief counselors have been deployed to the school to provide psychological support to students and staff affected by the tragedy.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) is also expected to look into the incident and review safety protocols to prevent similar occurrences in other schools.

As investigations continue, parents and community members are calling for a balance between discipline and emotional support for the affected students and their families.
