A tragic accident that occurred on Wednesday, June 19, 2025, on the Cape Coast-Takoradi-Accra Highway has claimed the life of a 19-year-old male, Wilfred Awusi Ninson.
According to a police report, the accident happened around 12:48 p.m. near the University of Cape Coast West Gate when a tipper truck loaded with sand veered off its lane and rammed into three stationary vehicles waiting to make a U-turn.
The driver of the truck, identified as 29-year-old Bright Essel, was in charge of a Donfeng tipper truck with registration number GN 5710-19. He was reportedly driving from Bronyibima towards the DVLA Junction in Cape Coast when he lost control of the vehicle and mounted a kerb, crashing into the vehicles.

The vehicles involved were a Nissan Sentra saloon car (CR 1756-12) driven by 57-year-old Kofi Kum, a Honda CRV 4×4 (CR 319-20) driven by 37-year-old Anita Ansah, and an Apsonic motor tricycle ridden by 26-year-old George Ayensu Peters.
The impact caused significant damage to all vehicles involved. Several individuals sustained injuries in the crash, including:
- Charles Ayensu Peters, 47, Prince Anamag Baidoo, 27, Wilfred Awusi Ninson, 19
All injured persons were rushed to the University of Cape Coast Hospital for emergency treatment. Unfortunately, 19-year-old Wilfred Awusi Ninson was pronounced dead on arrival by medical personnel.
The body of the deceased has since been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.
Police visited the accident scene, secured the area, and took photographic evidence. The damaged vehicles and tricycle were towed and impounded for further testing by the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA).
Investigations have been launched, and suspect driver Bright Essel is currently in police custody assisting with inquiries. Medical report forms have also been issued to the injured parties for further medical assessment and documentation.
Authorities continue to urge drivers to exercise caution and adhere strictly to road safety regulations to prevent such unfortunate incidents.
