Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has held a high-level meeting with Portage Energy, a clean-energy company known for advancing cutting-edge solutions in sustainable waste management and waste-to-energy technologies. The engagement forms part of government’s broader efforts to attract strategic partnerships that support Ghana’s environmental sustainability and energy transition agenda.
Portage Energy is currently exploring innovative approaches to converting waste into clean energy, including the production of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF)—a rapidly emerging global alternative that reduces carbon emissions in the aviation sector. Their interest in the Ghanaian market aligns with the country’s search for modern, science-driven methods of managing waste while expanding its renewable energy capacity.
During the meeting, the Vice President emphasized the government’s commitment to partnerships that are grounded in honesty, accountability, and shared value. She noted that in the current political and economic landscape, Ghana is prioritizing collaborations that are genuinely transparent and mutually beneficial—ventures that not only support national development but also translate into real and measurable improvements in the lives of citizens.

Prof. Opoku-Agyemang expressed optimism about the prospects of working with Portage Energy, highlighting that responsible waste management is central to Ghana’s public health, environmental stability, and energy-transition goals. She stated that the government is focused on attracting partners who bring both expertise and long-term value to the country.
The Vice President also indicated that further engagements will continue in the coming weeks as both parties assess potential areas of cooperation. These discussions are expected to identify concrete pathways for implementing waste-to-energy initiatives that advance Ghana’s sustainability agenda while serving the national interest.
The government remains committed to fostering partnerships that position Ghana at the forefront of clean-energy innovation in Africa.
