UN envoy applauds Ghana’s Election Security Taskforce for peaceful polls

Mr. Leonardo Santos Simão, UN Special Representative for West Africa, has commended Ghana's National Election Security Taskforce (NESTF) for implementing strong security measures that contributed to ensuring peaceful elections. “Your results and your example will inspire other countries in West Africa, in the Sahel, and the rest of the continent. Peaceful elections are not by chance but by deliberate and dedicated efforts,” he said at a meeting with members of the taskforce in Accra on Monday. UN Special Representative congratulates Ghana on successful elections 

Mr. Leonardo Santos Simão, the UN Secretary-General's Special Representative, has congratulated Ghanaians for holding a "peaceful and orderly" Presidential and Parliamentary election.   In a statement shared with the Ghana News Agency, he described the successful election as an important step toward strengthening the country’s democracy.  “The sense of responsibility demonstrated by all stakeholders, and the commitment of all the candidates, and leaders of political parties to ensuring that peace and security prevail during the entire electoral process, is once more a significant step towards consolidating the country’s democratic achievements, which will be cited as a model of political maturity and pragmatism,” he stated.  Mr. Santos Simão, who is also the Head of...
