The Narcotics Control Commission, as part of measures to ensure a nationwide effort to reinforce national security and protect public health during the Easter festivities, successfully concluded an intensive four-day anti-drug operation spanning key locations in the Eastern and Greater Accra regions. The North East Regional Police Command, in collaboration with the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) in Nalerigu, has intercepted a massive consignment of restricted drugs and arrested six suspects in the process. A total of 1,195 boxes of Tramadol Hydrochloride 120mg, popularly referred to as โ€œRed,โ€ were seized on September 18, 2025, at Gbintri near Nalerigu in the North East Region. The suspects, identified as Alhassan Braimah, Yakubu Muntaka, Abdulai Shakur, Mumuni Iddrisu, Mumuni Yakubu, and Moses Ayorik, were apprehended after two trucks with registration numbers GR 1712-16 and AW 4417-14 were intercepted. Almost 300 million people worldwide abused substances in 2022 โ€“ NACOCย ย 

The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) has disclosed that 292 million people globally abused substances in 2022, representing a 20 per cent increase over the past decade, according to data from the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC).ย ย  Mr. Sylvester Yaw Adu, Director of Drug Demand Reduction at NACOC, made the revelation during the 2025 World Drug Day commemoration in Ho, organized by UHAS Basic School in collaboration with NACOC.    The event, themed โ€œBreak the Cycle: Empowering the Youth Against Drug Abuse,โ€ brought together 13 basic schools from the Ho Municipality.   Mr. Adu highlighted that the alarming global rise in substance abuse reflects a growing challenge also visible in Ghana, particularly among the youth.    ...

NACOC intercepts 73 slabs of suspected cocaine at Swiss Port, KIAย 

Officials of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, intercepted a cargo being packaged for shipping at the Swiss Port at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), Accra, containing concealed substances suspected to be cocaine and destined for The Netherlands.ย ย  The NACOC in a statement said a total of 73 slabs with a weight of 89.74 kg were uncovered.   "Four suspects have been picked up and are currently in custody at NACOC whilst investigations are underway way," the statement said.  Source: GNAย
