The Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC), on Friday, 16 January 2026, carried out a targeted anti-narcotics operation in Budumburam and surrounding communities within the Gomoa East Municipality of the Central Region.
The operation forms part of NACOC’s nationwide campaign aimed at clamping down on drug trafficking and substance abuse across the country.
The intelligence-led exercise resulted in the arrest of several suspects and the seizure of assorted illicit drugs. Among those arrested was a 32-year-old woman identified as Rebecca Afia Naa Dei Kotei, popularly known as “Mother”, who is described by local opinion leaders as a major player in the area’s drug trade and had reportedly evaded arrest in the past.

According to NACOC, the suspect had been under surveillance for some time due to her alleged involvement in various forms of illicit drug trafficking. The Commission further disclosed that it has received numerous complaints regarding criminal activities linked to some of the individuals currently in custody.
During the raid, NACOC officials seized quantities of suspected cannabis, tramadol, and other controlled substances, as well as items believed to be associated with drug peddling.
NACOC has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding public health and safety and ensuring that Ghana becomes a drug-free nation. The Commission also assured the public that all suspects arrested in connection with the operation will be duly processed and arraigned before court in accordance with the law.
