Ghana’s security agencies have carried out a major intelligence-led operation targeting suspected cybercrime centres operating in parts of the Greater Accra Region, leading to the arrest of 53 Nigerian nationals and the rescue of dozens of suspected victims.
According to security sources, intelligence gathered over the last 48 hours by the Cyber Security Authority (CSA) revealed the existence of multiple cybercrime hubs in East Legon Hills, Afienya, Kwabenya, Weija, and Tuba. The intelligence suggested that young men were being exploited and coerced by alleged kingpins to engage in various cybercrime activities at these locations.
Acting on the CSA-led intelligence, a joint task force made up of operatives from National Security Operations, the Cyber Security Authority, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) Headquarters, and the National Police SWAT conducted coordinated raids on January 16 and 17, 2026.

During the operations, nine (9) Nigerian nationals were arrested as suspects believed to be directly involved in the cybercrime activities. In addition, forty-four (44) other Nigerian nationals, believed to be victims, were rescued from various apartments where they were found operating laptop computers under suspected coercion.
Searches conducted at the premises led to the retrieval of several items, including fifty-two (52) assorted mobile phones, sixty-two (62) laptop computers, and two (2) pump-action guns.
In total, fifty-three (53) Nigerian nationals were arrested across the five locations. The breakdown of arrests is as follows: East Legon Hills recorded five (5) arrests, Afienya eleven (11), Kwabenya ten (10), Weija ten (10), and Tuba seventeen (17).
All arrested individuals have been duly profiled and handed over to the Ghana Immigration Service for safekeeping and further investigations. Authorities have cautioned foreign nationals invited to Ghana to verify claims made by their compatriots, as some individuals are lured into the country under false pretences.
Security agencies further disclosed that some individuals picked up during earlier operations have already been profiled by the Ghana Immigration Service and INTERPOL and successfully handed over to Nigerian law enforcement authorities at the Seme border. Others are currently facing criminal prosecution before Ghanaian courts.
The government has reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding Ghana’s international cyber reputation, stressing that protecting the country’s cyber image is non-negotiable. Commendations have been extended to the Cyber Security Authority and all partner law enforcement agencies for the successful operation.
