Ashanti Region: Kusasi Chief shot dead by unknown assailants at Asawase

Mr. Abdul-Malik Azenbe, the Kusasi Chief of the Ashanti Region and Divisional Chief of Kadi in Binduri, was shot dead by unknown assailants on Tuesday night (July 22) in a tragic and brazen attack. According to eyewitness accounts, two unidentified men riding a motorbike arrived at the chief’s residence near the Asawase F-Line Community Centre at approximately 2040 hours. One of the attackers, reportedly wielding an AK-47 rifle, opened fire on the chief, before they both fled the scene. Chief Azenbe, who was enskinned as Kadi Naaba just three months ago, was initially rushed to the Manhyia Government Hospital. Police arrest 16 suspects for illegal mining at Manso Adubia

The Ghana Police Service has arrested sixteen (16) suspects during an anti-illegal mining operation at Essuminya and Apraprama Forest Reserves in the Ashanti Region. The joint operation, conducted on 19th June 2025, involved personnel drawn from the National Police Headquarters and the Manso Adubia District. The team embarked on the operation to clamp down on illegal mining activities within the forest reserves. During the operation, sixteen suspects were arrested while actively engaging in illegal mining activities. Police arrest five in connection with armed robberies in Ashanti Region

The Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) in the Ashanti Region has arrested five suspects linked to a string of armed robbery cases in the Denchemuoso District and surrounding areas. The key suspect, Michael Owusu Ansah, alias Baby Last (32), was apprehended on April 22, 2025, following credible intelligence. He had been on the police wanted list since 2016 for his alleged involvement in the robbery and murder of G/Cpl Frank Essel of SWAT/Ashanti at the Open Space Hotel, Denchemuoso. During interrogation, Baby Last confessed to participating in several robberies across Denchemuoso, Atwima-Techiman, and Asuoyeboah, revealing his gang operated with knives, pistols, and pump-action guns. Ashanti Regional Police Command demand release of officers involved in Nyinahin shootings

The Ashanti Regional Police is collaborating with the Central Command of the Ghana Armed Forces, for the release of military officers involve in the killing of a civilian at Nyinahin, in the Atwima Mponua District of Ashanti. The soldiers are said to have killed the civilian, identified as Akwasi Lala, also known as Kushivi and injured three others, during a confrontation with some mourners, who were on their way to bury their friend at the Nyinahin cemetery. Suspected ECG cable thief electrocuted to death at Adoato

A young man, suspected to have attempted to steal an earthen wire (cable) at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Substation at Adoato in the Ashanti Region has been electrocuted to death. The deceased, believed to be in his late thirties, was with the cable and a plier when his lifeless body was found in the early hours of Saturday, April 19, 2025. Speaking with Ghana News Agency, Mr Benjamin Obeng Antwi, the Ashanti West Public Relations Officer of the ECG, said the Police had taken the body to the mortuary for preservation and autopsy. The Ashanti Regional Police Command has apprehended three individuals suspected of being involved in the brutal robbery and murder of two mobile money vendors in the Ashanti Region. According to the police, the first incident occurred on Thursday, 13th February 2025, in Krofrom around noon, where the victim, Patricia Nimako, was attacked and fatally shot. Her assailants also made away with an undisclosed amount of money. A second attack took place on the night of Monday, 10th March 2025, in Kwadaso. Dr Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister-designate, has pledged to collaborate with the sector ministry to source funding to complete the Suame-Tafo-Mampong dualisation project to ease traffic congestion and boost economic activities along the route. The previous government cut the sod for the construction of the 23km road but could not complete it before leaving office on January 7, 2025.
