Ashanti Region: Kusasi Chief shot dead by unknown assailants at Asawase

Mr. Abdul-Malik Azenbe, the Kusasi Chief of the Ashanti Region and Divisional Chief of Kadi in Binduri, was shot dead by unknown assailants on Tuesday night (July 22) in a tragic and brazen attack. According to eyewitness accounts, two unidentified men riding a motorbike arrived at the chief’s residence near the Asawase F-Line Community Centre at approximately 2040 hours. One of the attackers, reportedly wielding an AK-47 rifle, opened fire on the chief, before they both fled the scene. Chief Azenbe, who was enskinned as Kadi Naaba just three months ago, was initially rushed to the Manhyia Government Hospital. Police arrest 16 suspects for illegal mining at Manso Adubia

The Ghana Police Service has arrested sixteen (16) suspects during an anti-illegal mining operation at Essuminya and Apraprama Forest Reserves in the Ashanti Region. The joint operation, conducted on 19th June 2025, involved personnel drawn from the National Police Headquarters and the Manso Adubia District. The team embarked on the operation to clamp down on illegal mining activities within the forest reserves. The Police Intelligence Directorate (PID) in the Ashanti Region has arrested five suspects linked to a string of armed robbery cases in the Denchemuoso District and surrounding areas. The key suspect, Michael Owusu Ansah, alias Baby Last (32), was apprehended on April 22, 2025, following credible intelligence. He had been on the police wanted list since 2016 for his alleged involvement in the robbery and murder of G/Cpl Frank Essel of SWAT/Ashanti at the Open Space Hotel, Denchemuoso. A young man, suspected to have attempted to steal an earthen wire (cable) at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) Substation at Adoato in the Ashanti Region has been electrocuted to death. The deceased, believed to be in his late thirties, was with the cable and a plier when his lifeless body was found in the early hours of Saturday, April 19, 2025. Dr Frank Amoakohene, the Ashanti Regional Minister-designate, has pledged to collaborate with the sector ministry to source funding to complete the Suame-Tafo-Mampong dualisation project to ease traffic congestion and boost economic activities along the route.
