PWDs at North Tongu receive assorted items from government  

The Government, through the North Tongu District Assembly in the Volta Region, has distributed assorted items to 55 persons with disability (PWDs) in the district to promote inclusivity and empowerment.

The items included industrial sewing machines, ice chests, bags of rice, gallons of cooking oil, cassava grinding machines, wheelchairs, gas ovens, deep freezers, and sacks of charcoal.

Mr Albert Xenyo, the North Tongu Head of Social Welfare and Community Development, said the items were intended to enhance the socio-economic well-being of the PWDs and promote their independence. 

Twenty-two pupils with disability also had their school fees paid, underscoring the Government’s commitment to inclusive education, he said.

Mr Divine Osborne Fenu, the North Tongu District Chief Executive, emphasised government’s dedication to supporting PWDs and encouraged them to participate in the upcoming general election as part of their civic responsibility. 

He urged them to promote peace and tranquility before, during and after the elections.

Mr Ernest Adika, the Chairman of the Social Services Sub-committee, told the Ghana News Agency that the beneficiaries were selected based on a thorough assessment to ascertain those with severe disabilities.

Mr Adika, also the Chairman of the Disability Fund Committee,encouraged the PWDs to utilise the items effectively and sustainably, ensuring they brought about tangible improvements in their lives.

Mr Battorvi Brown Cooper, the Chairman of the PWDs in the district, expressed gratitude to the Government for the supportand said the beneficiaries would take good care of the items and use them wisely.

This initiative is part of the government’s broader efforts to promote the welfare and empowerment of PWDs. 

Over the last three years, the Government, through the District Assembly, has supported over 300 PWDs to enhance their living conditions, demonstrating its commitment to creating a more inclusive and equitable society.
