Women, PwDs empowered to influence local governance in Northern Region

A total of 50 women leaders and persons with disabilities (PwDs) from the Nanumba South, Kumbungu, and Mion Districts have benefited from a leadership and governance training aimed at strengthening their participation in local decision-making processes. The two-day training, organised by the Savannah Women Integrated Development Agency (SWIDA-Ghana) under the Strengthening Investments in Gender-Responsive Climate Adaptation (SIGRA) project, is to build the knowledge and confidence of women and PwDs to effectively engage in upcoming District Assemblies’ budget consultations and other governance activities. Disability Federation urges PwDs to quit alms-begging, access Disability fund  

The Ghana Federation of Disability Organization has cautioned People with Disabilities (PwDs) to quit alms-begging on the street and accessing the Disability Funds to live decent lives.   Instead, Madam Sirina Mahamadu, the National Vice President of the Federation who gave the advice, urged the PwDs to apply for the Disability Fund to find something worth doing and thereby live decent and dignified lives.  In an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) in Sunyani, she entreated the PwDs to apply for the fund through the Federation and other registered and recognised disability groups and engage in viable economic activities to improve the socio-economic livelihoods.  She explained that the Disability Fund was set up to support the PwDs to engage in employable skills training, entreprene...

PWDs at North Tongu receive assorted items from government  

The Government, through the North Tongu District Assembly in the Volta Region, has distributed assorted items to 55 persons with disability (PWDs) in the district to promote inclusivity and empowerment. The items included industrial sewing machines, ice chests, bags of rice, gallons of cooking oil, cassava grinding machines, wheelchairs, gas ovens, deep freezers, and sacks of charcoal. Mr Albert Xenyo, the North Tongu Head of Social Welfare and Community Development, said the items were intended to enhance the socio-economic well-being of the PWDs and promote their independence.  Twenty-two pupils with disability also had their school fees paid, underscoring the Government's commitment to inclusive education, he said.
