Police Arrest TikTok Content Creator Over Alleged False Publication in Kumasi

The Ghana Police Service has arrested a 45-year-old man, Isaac Boafo, popularly known as “Duabo King,” for allegedly publishing false information intended to cause fear and panic among the public.

According to a statement from the Ashanti Regional Police Command, the arrest followed a viral video circulated on TikTok in which the suspect alleged that four officers stationed at the Central Police Station in Kumasi had engaged in inappropriate conduct with commercial sex workers during night patrols at Asafo in Kumasi.

Police said officers from the Police Intelligence Directorate in the Ashanti Region acted on intelligence and apprehended the suspect.

During interrogation, Isaac Boafo reportedly admitted to publishing the video. He told investigators that he is a social media content creator and made the allegations solely to attract views and boost online engagement. He further confessed that he could not substantiate the claims made against the officers.

The suspect also acknowledged making comments concerning the President of the Republic for content creation purposes and admitted he could not defend those statements.

Police confirmed that he has since been formally charged and detained to assist with ongoing investigations.

In a statement signed by Deputy Superintendent of Police Godwin Ahianyo, Head of the Public Affairs Unit for the Ashanti Region, the Police cautioned the public against the publication and circulation of false information, particularly on social media platforms.

The statement emphasized that such actions have the potential to cause unnecessary fear, panic, and reputational damage, adding that individuals found engaging in the spread of false information will be dealt with in accordance with the law.

Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
