NPP Invites Presidential Hopefuls, Sanctions Bono Regional Chairman Abronye Over Indiscipline

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has taken significant steps to reinforce party unity and discipline ahead of its highly anticipated presidential primaries.

In a statement released and signed by the Party’s General Secretary, Mr. Justin Kodua Frimpong, the National Steering Committee, at its meeting held on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, made a number of key resolutions.

First, the Committee resolved to invite all individuals who have publicly declared their intention to contest in the forthcoming NPP presidential primary to a joint meeting with the National Steering Committee and the Council of Elders. The meeting, which is expected to address critical matters of mutual concern and strategic direction, has been scheduled for Thursday, July 3, 2025.

In a related development, the Steering Committee has referred the Bono Regional Chairman of the party, Mr. Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, to the National Disciplinary Committee. This follows what the party describes as Mr. Baffoe’s breach of directives issued by the National Council, specifically his continued public commentary deemed unguarded and divisive.

The Party has also directed the immediate discontinuation of all caucuses or associations composed of current and former executives or government appointees who have been holding private meetings with presidential aspirants—an act which violates party regulations.

The NPP leadership used the opportunity to remind all party members of their constitutional duty to uphold unity within the party. Members were urged to support party decisions publicly and to refrain from conduct that could undermine internal cohesion and discipline.

As the party moves closer to selecting its next presidential candidate, these latest actions signal a strong commitment by the leadership to maintain order, discipline, and fairness in the selection process.
