NPP Calls for Transparency and Accountability Over Suspected Drug Trafficking and Money Laundering

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has issued a strong call for government transparency and accountability following growing public concerns over two foreign aircraft currently in Ghana. The party is demanding clear explanations from the government about the presence and mission of AirMed flight N823AM and the Cavok Air Antonov An-12B, both of which have been under scrutiny for their unexplained operations within the country.

In a press release issued today, the NPP criticized what it described as attempts by the government to intimidate the political minority and suppress legitimate concerns raised by Ghanaians. The party emphasized that the origin and suspicious circumstances surrounding the two aircraft warrant a full and satisfactory explanation from authorities.

Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, who offered an initial government response, came under fire for what the NPP described as a “scanty and defensive” statement that failed to allay public fears. The party noted that both aircraft developed faults while in Ghana, a detail it called “baffling” and further evidence of a possibly contrived narrative.

The NPP also cited the involvement of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime, which has reportedly urged the government to investigate the flights, and demanded a professional response from Ghanaian security agencies outlining the cargo and mission of the aircraft.

Additionally, the NPP called for an update on two major drug trafficking cases: the $350 million cocaine bust in Cape Coast and the $150 million seizure in Sekondi, the latter of which allegedly involves a member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC). The party criticized Mr. Kwakye Ofosu for not addressing these developments and accused the government of remaining silent on high-profile drug arrests, especially those potentially involving senior NDC figures.

In closing, the NPP cautioned the government against downplaying issues of drug trafficking and money laundering, labeling them as critical matters of national concern that require full disclosure and responsible action.
