The Northern Regional Police Command has launched investigations into an alleged assault involving renowned visual artist Ibrahim Mahama and some police officers in Tamale.
In a statement, the Command confirmed that it has begun formal inquiries into the incident and assured the public that updates on the ongoing investigation will be communicated as they become available.
The Police further cautioned the public against misinformation, clarifying that claims circulating in sections of the media suggesting the involvement of the Special Operations Team, known as “The Black Maria,” are false. According to the Command, the unit has not been operating in the Northern Region following its withdrawal by the Inspector-General of Police on Thursday, March 5, 2026.

The Command emphasized its commitment to ensuring a thorough and transparent investigation into the matter while maintaining public confidence in the police service.
Further details are expected as investigations progress.
