IGP Orders Probe into Viral Allegation of Unauthorised GH₵400,000 Mobile Money Withdrawal

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohuno, has directed the Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) to investigate allegations captured in a viral video concerning the unauthorized withdrawal of GH₵400,000 from the account of a mobile money agent at Kibi.

The directive follows widespread circulation of a video on social media in which claims were made that some police personnel were involved in the withdrawal of the substantial sum from the agent’s mobile money account.

According to a statement from the Police Administration, the IGP has tasked the PPSB the internal oversight body responsible for professional standards within the Service to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation into the matter.

The alleged victim has since been contacted by the Police and is cooperating with investigators to assist in establishing the facts surrounding the incident.

The Police Administration has assured the public that the outcome of the investigation will be duly communicated once the process is concluded.

The development has sparked public interest and calls for transparency, particularly given the growing reliance on mobile money services across the country. Authorities say the investigation will help clarify the circumstances and ensure accountability where necessary.

Further updates are expected as the inquiry progresses.
