GHANA HOUSE ARCHITECTURAL DESIGN COMPETITION MOVES FORWARD WITH ENHANCED GUIDELINES

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration has issued an update on the ongoing Ghana House Architectural Design Competition, following its initial announcement on 5th November 2025. The competition forms part of the government’s Strategic Transition from Renting to Infrastructure Development (STRIDE) policy, aimed at securing purpose-built diplomatic facilities that embody Ghana’s cultural identity and architectural innovation.

Eligibility and Participation

The Ministry clarified that the competition is open exclusively to architects who are duly registered with the Architects Registration Council (ARC). To ensure full stakeholder engagement, competition announcements and updates will be delivered directly to all professionals listed on the ARC register.

Involvement of Students

While the competition maintains its professional standards, students are also allowed to participate—on the condition that they partner with a registered architectural firm if their design is selected as the winning entry. This provision is intended to promote mentorship, innovation, and capacity-building within the architectural sector.

Updated Timeline

The competition remains on course for completion by 30th December 2025. Minor adjustments have been introduced to accommodate the broadened notification process, ensuring that all eligible participants receive timely information.

Ensuring Fairness and Transparency

The Ministry emphasized its commitment to procedural integrity. Strict anonymity protocols, along with transparent jury procedures, will be enforced to ensure a fair, impartial, and credible competition. These measures are designed to prevent conflicts of interest and uphold the highest professional standards.

The Ghana House initiative aims to deliver state-owned diplomatic buildings that not only meet functional needs but also reflect Ghana’s values, heritage, and architectural excellence. The Ministry reaffirmed its dedication to conducting a fair, transparent, and inclusive competition that advances this national vision.
