Unidentified youth vandalise Electrochem facilities, seize equipment

An attack on the Ada Songhor Electrochem Ghana Limited in the Greater Accra Region by some unidentified individuals has left the company devastated, bringing its operations to a standstill. More than 350 unidentified youth allegedly stormed the warehouse, sites, and offices of the company in the early hours of Thursday, making away with pumps, motorbikes, car tires, finished salt products and vandalising trucks. The Ada Divisional Police Commander, ACP Joseph Atsu Dzineku, confirmed the incident to the Parliamentary Press Corps on Friday during a site visit. Kadjebi residents urge to handle naked-fire with care

Chaos at Atebubu as police fire gunshots to disperse aggressive drivers  

Police at Atebubu in the Bono East Region fired gunshots to disperse some aggrieved commercial drivers who besieged the Atebubu Police Station in the early hours of Saturday.  The GNA gathered that the aggressive drivers were at the police station to demand justice for their colleague who was attacked and killed by a group of armed robbers on the Atebubu-Kumasi highway on Friday night January 10, 2025.  Police had since deposited the body of the deceased, Ali Ibrahim, at a mortuary in the town.   However, no arrest had been made.  Military reinforcement had arrived in the town to bring the situation under control.    Though the police officers on duty had since left the station, the angry drivers burnt car tyres as residents around the police station enclave ...

Government to establish additional Eid al-Fitr holiday, reduce Hajj fares

The Government has promised to add one more holiday to the Eid al-Fitr national holiday and reduce Hajj fares to enable more Moslems to participate in the annual pilgrimage. "We promised to add one more holiday to the Eid al-Fitr. So as soon as parliament settles, we're going to amend the Holidays Act to include an extra holiday on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr," President John Dramani Mahama said at the Muslims National Thanksgiving Service on Friday. “And so this year after we finish the fast of the Ramadan we will have two holidays for the Salah festivities."
