Women leadership: NGO builds capacity of influencers to lead advocacy

The Africa Centre for Human Rights and Sustainable Development (AfCHuRSD), a gender-sensitive Non-governmental Organisation, has appealed to community-level influencers to lead the advocacy for women’s participation in leadership roles at all levels of society. It said some women had the capabilities, qualifications, and competence to take up leadership roles, but needed encouragement and support to present themselves for such opportunities and responsibilities. Mahama appoints Eight-Member Committee to organise National Education Forum

President John Dramani Mahama has appointed an Eight-Member Committee to organise the National Education Forum, fulfilling his pledge to the people of Ghana. The Committee, chaired by former Pro Vice-Chancellor of the University of Cape Coast, Professor George K. T. Oduro, has two weeks to submit its report and plan. The life of a physically-challenged cobbler (shoemaker), believed to be in his 30s, ended tragically on Saturday, when a private saloon car run over him along the Sunyani-Abesim highway. Fire Destroys 12-Acre Mango Farm in Somanya

A fire break has destroyed approximately 12 acres of mango farm in Okwenya, a suburb of Somanya, in the Yilo Krobo Municipality of the Eastern Region. The mango farm, which occupies a total of 25 acres, suffered losses amounting to over GHc100,000.  In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Mr Abubakari Musah of the Somanya Fire Service said they received a distress call at 11:20 AM last week from the farm owner, who alerted them that the mango farm was ablaze.
