A leading member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Boakye Agyarko, has begun high-level consultations with senior figures of the party as part of his effort to contest for the position of National Chairman.
Mr. Agyarko disclosed that he has formally informed Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo‑Addo of his intention to run for the top party position. The meeting forms part of a broader series of engagements with leading personalities within the NPP tradition.
According to him, rebuilding the future of the party must begin with recognising and honouring the pioneers who helped establish its foundations.

As part of the consultations, Mr. Agyarko also met with members of the NPP’s National Council of Elders, led by veteran politician Hackman Owusu-Agyemang. The discussions focused on party unity, organisational strengthening and the future direction of the NPP.
The engagements follow an earlier meeting he held with former President John Agyekum Kufuor, one of the party’s most influential statesmen.
Mr. Agyarko said his goal is to position himself as a unifying figure capable of bridging the party’s rich history with its future aspirations.
He emphasised that strengthening the party’s internal structures will be critical to supporting the NPP’s 2024 flagbearer, Mahamudu Bawumia, and building a strong organisational base ahead of the 2028 general elections.
“My purpose in these interactions is to present myself as a unifying bridge between the party’s history and its future direction,” he noted.
Mr. Agyarko also expressed gratitude to senior members of the NPP for their guidance and encouragement during the consultation process.
He added that with unity and strong leadership, the party can regain its full strength and position itself strongly for the future.
The consultations are expected to continue in the coming weeks as the race for the NPP National Chairman position gradually gathers momentum ahead of the party’s internal elections.
