Ms Helena Adikie Ozor, winner of the GaDangme beauty pageant, dubbed: “GaDangme Bi Yo 2024”, has pledged her commitment to promoting the indigenous language through reading competitions among the youth of the Ga and Dangme states.
She said education of the girl-child was another project she would focus on.
Ms Ozor, with the stage name Naana Adiki, said this during a welcome durbar organised by the Ada State in her honour after emerging as the winner.
She said the reading competition would be organised among students in all states of Ga and Dangme to rekindle their reading interests and make the local language attractive.
“I will collaborate with groups and individuals to form clubs in the various communities to facilitate this reading competition and girl-child education,” she said.
Mr Ozor appealed to groups and individuals to support her project to bridge the gap between other Ghanaian languages and those of the Ga and Dangme states.
Nana Tatse Narteh Afloe I, Development Chief of Adubinsukese, Kumasi, who chaired the programme, said the people of GaDangme had great potential and needed to work together to harness those potentials for the greater good.
He appealed to them to prioritise the education of their children to reach higher levels and uphold the dignity of their cultural practices and pass it on to the future generation.
