The Ghana Police Service has clarified that a disturbing viral video circulating online, which shows a child being abused, did not occur in Ghana but in neighboring Nigeria.
In a statement issued after investigations by the Inspector-General of Police’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team (CVET), authorities confirmed that the incident originated in Ogun State, Nigeria.
According to the police, the video—widely shared on social media earlier this week—depicts a man identified as Odukaye Kunle assaulting his young son, Boluwatife, during a domestic dispute with his wife. The incident reportedly occurred at Popoola Street in Oko Baale, within Ado Odo Otta in Ogun State.

The footage sparked widespread outrage, with many social media users tagging the Ghana Police Service and its CVET unit, prompting swift verification efforts.
Following the investigation, the Nigeria Police Force confirmed that the suspect has been arrested by the Ogun State Police Command. The development was disclosed by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi, via social media platform X (formerly Twitter).
Police in Nigeria indicated that the suspect is currently in custody and will face prosecution. Meanwhile, the child and his mother have been taken to a police medical facility in Otta for evaluation and care.
The Ghana Police Service commended the public for their vigilance and concern, emphasizing the importance of responsible reporting and verification in the digital age. The Service also reiterated its commitment to collaborating with citizens and international partners in combating crime across borders.
