NACOC intercepts 73 slabs of suspected cocaine at Swiss Port, KIA 

Officials of the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) on Wednesday, April 23, 2025, intercepted a cargo being packaged for shipping at the Swiss Port at the Kotoka International Airport (KIA), Accra, containing concealed substances suspected to be cocaine and destined for The Netherlands.   The NACOC in a statement said a total of 73 slabs with a weight of 89.74 kg were uncovered.   "Four suspects have been picked up and are currently in custody at NACOC whilst investigations are underway way," the statement said.  Source: GNA

Group Sues To Remove Kotoka From Airport Name

A social activist group, Democracy Hub in collaboration with the Convention People’s Party (CPP), has filed a lawsuit at the Supreme Court seeking the removal of Kotoka’s name from Accra International Airport. The suit avers that the continuous glorification of Lieutenant-General Emmanuel Kwasi Kotoka by way of maintaining his name on the airport goes against Ghana’s democratic tents and rather glorifies coup d’état. It says the actions forms part of a broader effort to correct historical injustice, challenge the glorification of unconstitutional rule, and reaffirm Ghana’s commitment to democratic governance. Work on Hajj Village at KIA progresses steadily- GACL

Works on the multipurpose Hajj Village at Kotoka International Airport are ongoing in earnest as the President John Dramani Mahama cut sod on Friday, February 28, 2025. A statement issued in Accra by the Ghana Airports Company Limited (GACL) said  being a state-owned self-sustaining commercial entity, it generated its own funds internally. It said in so doing, the Company needed to generate revenues from commercial partnerships with various investors to generate revenue,  while facilitating the movement of aircraft, passengers, cargo and mail.
