The Ashanti South Regional Police Command has arrested a suspect in connection with a planned robbery targeting a gold miner at Manso Abrense, near Manso Nsiana in the Ashanti Region.
The suspect, identified as Stephen Kwakye, was arrested on 30th December 2025 following intelligence that he and other accomplices were plotting to attack a gold miner who regularly transports gold to Kumasi for sale.
According to the police, preliminary investigations revealed that Kwakye played a leading role in organising the planned robbery. His alleged involvement included monitoring the movements of the victim and coordinating with accomplices to ambush him while he was in transit.

Acting on the intelligence received, police officers closely monitored the activities of the suspects. Kwakye was arrested when he appeared to collect his share of the proceeds after being informed that the robbery had supposedly been successful.
During interrogation, the suspect reportedly admitted to organising the robbery.
He is currently in police custody assisting with ongoing investigations, while efforts are underway to identify, trace, and arrest his accomplices to face the full rigours of the law.
The Police Command has reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and urged the public to continue cooperating with security agencies by providing timely and credible information.
