The Ghana Police Service has confirmed the arrest of a man captured in a viral video allegedly giving a cigarette to a child, an act that sparked public outrage across social media.
According to a police statement, the suspect, Samuel Obeng Acheampong, was picked up on Friday, 22nd November, 2025, following an intelligence-led operation aimed at locating him after the video gained widespread attention online.
During interrogation, the suspect admitted to the offence and cooperated with investigators. He further told police that the incident occurred about five years ago, though the video resurfaced recently, igniting concerns about child safety and neglect.

The suspect is currently being held in custody and is assisting with ongoing investigations. The Ghana Police Service has indicated that he will soon be arraigned before the court to face prosecution.
In its statement, the Police Service emphasized its firm commitment to protecting children from abuse and exposure to harmful substances. The service also issued a caution to the public:
“We would like to caution the public against acts that expose children to harm. Perpetrators will be pursued and arrested to face the full rigours of the law,” the statement read.
Authorities have reassured Ghanaians that issues involving children will continue to be treated with urgency and seriousness, urging citizens to report suspected abuse to the nearest police station.
