Former Nigerian presidential candidate and leader of the Obidients Movement, Peter Obi, has extended a message of deep sympathy and solidarity to President John Dramani Mahama, the people of Ghana, and the families affected by the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed eight lives, including two senior Cabinet Ministers.

In a statement released on Wednesday, Obi described the incident as a “painful moment not just for Ghana but for all of us across the region who stand in solidarity with you.”

“On behalf of my family and the Obidients family, I want to deeply extend my condolences to His Excellency, President John Mahama, and the great people of Ghana over the tragic loss of Honourable Minister Edward Boamah, Honourable Minister Ibrahim Mohammed, and other public officials in the unfortunate helicopter crash today,” Obi stated.

A Regional Tragedy

The crash, which occurred earlier today, has shocked the nation and the wider West African region. Among the deceased are Defence Minister Dr. Edward Kofi Omane Boamah, Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, and six other public officials and military personnel who were on official duty.

Peter Obi noted the wider regional impact of the tragedy, emphasizing the strong bonds of solidarity that unite African nations in times of grief.

“To the families of the bereaved, the people of Ghana, and the members of the Armed Forces, please accept my deepest sympathy and solidarity,” he said.

Prayers for Ghana

The Obidients leader concluded his message with a prayer for national healing and peace.

“May God comfort the families and the entire nation in this time of sorrow, and may the departed rest in perfect peace. Amen.”

Obi’s message adds to a growing chorus of international condolences pouring in from diplomatic missions, foreign governments, and global leaders, all expressing support for Ghana during this period of national mourning.
