The Parliament of Ghana has expressed deep sorrow and heartbreak over the tragic helicopter crash that claimed the lives of eight prominent Ghanaians, including two sitting ministers and a Member of Parliament.
In an official statement signed by Hon. Mahama Ayariga, Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business, the Parliamentary Caucus conveyed its heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and colleagues of the deceased. The statement described the incident as a “devastating blow” to Parliament, government institutions, the Armed Forces, and the nation at large.
The victims of the crash, which occurred in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region, have been identified as:

- Dr. Edward Omane Boamah – Minister for Defence
- Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed – Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, and Member of Parliament for Tamale Central
- Alhaji Muniru Mohammed – Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
- Dr. Samuel Sarpong – Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC)
- Samuel Aboagye – Former Parliamentary Candidate
- Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala – Pilot
- Flying Officer Manin Twum-Ampadu – Co-pilot
- Sergeant Ernest Addo Mensah – Crew member
“These were individuals who dedicated their lives to the service of our nation,” the statement read. “Their untimely and tragic demise is a devastating blow… Their sacrifice, patriotism, and commitment to duty will forever be etched in the history of our Republic.”
Hon. Ayariga noted that the fallen public servants and military officers served with distinction, loyalty, and a spirit of national service that inspired their peers and the people they represented.
The Parliamentary Caucus joined the President, Members of Government, and the wider Ghanaian population in mourning the loss and called for national unity in this time of collective grief.
“May their souls rest in peace,” the statement concluded, honouring their memory and acknowledging the void their absence leaves behind in the country’s leadership and governance.
The nation continues to reel from the tragedy, as tributes pour in from across political, religious, and educational institutions. Funeral arrangements are expected to be announced in the coming days.
