The Nigerian entertainment community has been thrown into mourning following the death of Nollywood actor and content creator Odira Nwobu, who passed away just five months after surviving a major car accident.
In June 2025, the Anambra-born actor narrowly escaped death in a serious crash on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway, an incident that claimed several lives. Nwobu was hospitalized after the accident but later recovered from the injuries he sustained.
Reports indicate that the actor died in South Africa after returning home from a night out at a local club where he had been spending time with friends. Witnesses and social media accounts say he had gone out to relax shortly before his sudden passing.

Veteran filmmaker Arthur Scoot confirmed the news on Monday. He noted that Nwobu had been managing high blood pressure, which may have played a role in his death.
Fans, colleagues, and members of the entertainment industry have taken to social media to express their shock and sorrow. Many described it as tragic that the actor survived a near-fatal crash only to pass away months later under unexpected circumstances.
Blogger Awuzie Frankline also shared his grief on Instagram, writing, “God, why! ODIRA, why leave us… How can you return from South Africa lifeless?”
As of the time of reporting, Nwobu’s family and management have not released an official statement, and the exact cause of his death has not been confirmed.
