The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed profound sorrow and shock following the tragic helicopter crash on Tuesday, August 6, 2025, that claimed the lives of eight Ghanaians, including key figures within the Party and gallant personnel of the Ghana Armed Forces.
In a solemn statement signed by the Party’s General Secretary, Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the NDC confirmed the heartbreaking loss of:
- Hon. Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence and a prominent member of the NDC
- Hon. Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, Minister for Environment, Science, Technology and Innovation, MP, and dedicated NDC stalwart
- Dr. Samuel Sarpong, National Vice Chairman of the NDC
- Alhaji Muniru Mohammed Limuna, Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator
- Mr. Samuel Aboagye, former NDC Parliamentary Candidate for Obuasi East (2020, 2024)
- Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala
- Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu
- Sergeant Ernest Addo
Describing the incident as a “devastating moment for our Party and for our nation,” the NDC said the victims were not only loyal comrades but also patriotic Ghanaians who served with distinction, courage, and unwavering commitment to national development.

“This is an irreplaceable loss to their families, the NDC, the Government, and the entire country,” the statement read. “We have lost exemplary patriots who dedicated their lives to Ghana’s progress and stability.”
The Party extended its “deepest and most heartfelt condolences” to the bereaved families, the Ghana Armed Forces, and the entire nation, urging all citizens to honour the lives and legacy of the fallen.
“May their souls rest in perfect peace. May their legacy of service and sacrifice continue to inspire us all,” the statement concluded.
The tragic crash, which has plunged the nation into mourning, has led to an outpouring of grief from across the political divide, the military, and the general public.
President John Dramani Mahama has since ordered all national flags to fly at half-mast in honour of the departed. Further investigations into the cause of the crash are expected to be announced in the coming days
