Mr Ahmed Ibrahim the Minister of Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs has lauded the institution of the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving Service.
The service instituted by President John Dramani Mahama and scheduled for July 1, 2025, Mr Ibrahim also the Member of Parliament for Banda constituency in the Bono Region added would “usher in a transformative era for the nation”.
He said the event would not only foster spiritual bond and unity but also serve as a catalyst for progressive national development and economic rebound.
Mr Ibrahim said this when speaking at a thanksgiving service held in honour of him at the Church of Pentecost, Sophia Cudjoe Temple in the Sakumono District, Accra, saying the event would mark a new chapter in the nation’s consciousness, bringing together citizens across faiths and backgrounds.
He said the initiative of the President replaced the traditional Republic Day celebration and “is aimed at fostering collective gratitude for Ghana’s peace, stability, and continued progress”.
“This day goes beyond ceremony, it’s a spiritual and national moment that will move and stabilize the country, reinforce the cedi, and reflect President Mahama’s broader vision for unity and prosperity,” Mr Ibrahim stated.
He said the event would be decentralized, with observances to be held in all regional 16 regional capitals to foster broader nationwide participation.
Mr Ibrahim said the role of religious and traditional leaders in deepening social cohesion could not be underestimated, stressing that “spiritual solidarity among citizens is critical to the nation’s development”.
He expressed gratitude to God for his re-election and subsequent appointment as a minister, pledging to serve the nation in humility and diligence.
Apostle Wilberforce Nkrumah Agyemang, the Area Head of the Church of Pentecost, Teshie-Nungua, advised the minister to and other Ministers of State and public officials to endeavour to maintain consistency and dedication in leadership, asking them to “continually seek self-improvement as a means of transforming lives and contributing to national development”.
“Through discipline and meaningful change, you will not only uplift others but also help shape a stronger economy”, Apostle Agyemang stated.
The service was attended by Mr Asiedu Nketiah, the National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) Madam Rita Naa Odoley Sowah, the Deputy Local Government Minister, Mr Elvis Afriyie Ankrah, Presidential staffer, the business community, religious leaders and NDC following.
