The Minority in Parliament has issued a strong call for fairness in the pricing of DStv subscription packages in Ghana, citing growing public discontent over the disparity between local fees and those in neighbouring countries.
In a press statement signed by Hon. Matthew Nyindam, Ranking Member of the Committee on Information and Communications, the Minority expressed full support for the ongoing public advocacy led by concerned citizens, which has prompted the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation to take notice.
“We believe the concerns Ghanaians have raised are valid and deserve urgent attention,” the statement read. “Subscription fees must be set fairly and reflect the economic realities in Ghana.”

The Minority commended the Ministry for its efforts to safeguard the interest of Ghanaian consumers but emphasised the need for solutions rooted in law, fairness, and dialogue—not media confrontations.
Calling for a suspension of what it described as a “media war,” the Minority urged all stakeholders to adopt a diplomatic approach. To this end, the group has formally written to the Chairman of Parliament’s Committee on Information and Communications, requesting that both the Minister for Communications and Digitalisation and officials of MultiChoice Ghana (DStv) be summoned before the Committee.
According to the Minority, this engagement aims to:
- Examine the basis of the current DStv pricing structure in Ghana.
- Ensure the National Communications Authority (NCA) fulfils its mandate to protect consumers.
- Seek a fair resolution that benefits the Ghanaian public without undermining investor confidence.
The Minority concluded its statement by reaffirming its commitment to championing fairness, transparency, and accountability in the pricing of pay-TV services in Ghana.
This development comes amid a public outcry over recent DStv subscription price hikes, with many Ghanaians calling for regulatory intervention and consumer protection.
