The management of Ghanaian musician King Paluta has officially petitioned the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) board, questioning the exclusion of his hit song Makoma from the list of nominees.
In a formal letter addressed to the TGMA board, the team expressed their disappointment over the song’s omission, despite its immense popularity and impact during the year under review. They stated that Makoma was duly submitted for consideration in multiple categories, including Most Popular Song, Record of the Year, Hiplife Song of the Year, and Songwriter of the Year (King Paluta).
According to the petition, the team was surprised to find that none of these submissions were recognized when the official nominees were announced. They emphasized their trust in the competence of the TGMA board but urged them to provide a convincing explanation for what they termed an “unpopular decision.”
“We believe Makoma remains Ghana’s most popular song released during the year under review, generating significant excitement among music lovers,” the statement read.
Furthermore, King Paluta’s team assured the board that the song does not breach any moral or ethical guidelines and expressed their willingness to engage in discussions regarding its reconsideration.
The petition raises concerns about the transparency of the nomination process, a recurring issue in Ghana’s music industry. As of now, the TGMA board has yet to respond to the letter.
Music enthusiasts and fans of King Paluta are now awaiting further developments as the conversation around Makoma’s snub continues to gain momentum.
