The nation of Ghana is plunged into deep mourning following a devastating helicopter crash near Adansi Sikaman that claimed the lives of eight individuals, including five high-ranking government officials and three dedicated members of the Ghana Armed Forces.
In a solemn statement released today, the Movement for Change expressed profound sorrow and extended heartfelt condolences to the families of the deceased, the Government of Ghana, and the National Democratic Congress (NDC). The statement was signed by Solomon Owusu, spokesperson for the movement.
“Today, the soul of our nation weeps,” the message began, calling the incident a heartbreaking national tragedy. The Movement described the victims as “gallant Ghanaians” who lost their lives in the line of duty, underscoring their service and sacrifice for the country.

The Movement also conveyed solidarity with President John Dramani Mahama, the leadership of the Armed Forces, and the entire Ghanaian populace, stating, “We offer solidarity in this dark hour. The Movement for Change stands with you in national unity, prayer, and remembrance.”
The statement further emphasized the fragility of life and the sacred duty of leadership. “Let this tragedy remind us all—leaders and citizens alike—that our lives are fragile, our responsibilities sacred, and our duty to this nation greater than ourselves,” it read.
Concluding on a note of hope and unity, the Movement urged the country to rise from sorrow with renewed purpose: “May we rise from this sorrow with renewed resolve to build a Ghana that honours the sacrifice of those we have lost. May their souls rest in perfect peace. And may Ghana, in her mourning, find grace, strength, and purpose.”
The tragic incident has sparked national grief, with tributes pouring in from local and international leaders. President Mahama has ordered national flags to fly at half-mast in honour of the fallen.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing as the nation prepares for a state memorial for the victims.
