The German Embassy in Accra has expressed deep sorrow and heartfelt sympathy following the tragic helicopter crash that occurred on Wednesday, August 6, 2025, claiming the lives of several high-ranking government officials and crew members.
In a solemn statement released Thursday morning, the Embassy said, “It is with deep sorrow and heartfelt sympathy that the German Embassy in Accra has learned of the tragic loss of lives in a helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6, 2025.”
The crash, which has sent shockwaves across Ghana and beyond, resulted in the untimely deaths of key state officials, including the Minister of Defence, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, and the Minister for Environment, Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.

The German government extended its condolences to the families of the deceased, the Government of Ghana, and the Ghanaian people during this period of national mourning. The Embassy added that it stands in solidarity with the nation as it grieves the loss of dedicated public servants who served with commitment and distinction.
Flags have been ordered to fly at half-mast across the country in honour of the fallen, while tributes continue to pour in from foreign missions, international organizations, and global leaders.
Investigations into the cause of the crash are currently underway, with the Ghana Armed Forces and relevant authorities leading the process.
